Manse of Murrayfield - Full Garden Redevelopment

Murrayfield, Eight years ago.  We purchased a 12 bedroomed Hotel and Beer Garden and started redeveloping it back into a family home. Our aim was to restore it to the Victorian “Manse of Murrayfield” that it was known as at the turn of the Century when occupied by the then parish minister. 
 
The two distinct gardens, separated by an 8 foot fence, were at the outset of the works, overgrown and soulless, each drab and colourless with almost no plants or borders at all and only some grass patches for colour.

During the 18 month redevelopment works the whole  garden became a quagmire of mud - the majority of the land being dug up with demolition machinery.

Rebuilding the gardens into one was a huge job. After the hard landscaping work Bernie  came in to overhaul the remainder of the garden and to handle the soft landscaping & planting. My vision  was of a pink/purple/blue/white countryside cottage garden ‘feel’.

I wanted a beautiful, private garden full of colour, but also a garden that my kids could roam free in and kick a ball with their friends without fear of too much upset.

 I wanted a garden that would pretend it was in a country village somewhere, not in the city centre and hence protection had to be built into the design to accommodate the noise of the traffic and general city centre life

Bernie took my vision on board and has worked tirelessly to create an enclosed, private and stunning garden accommodating all my wishes through careful long term planning and then planting of shrubs, climbers, borders and pots to maximise the impact.

It has been 6 years of hard work and determination on Bernie’s part and we are now enjoying a colourful, vibrant and mature garden that almost looks after itself.  We have different spots to sit in to match the sun and with the added benefit of colour throughout the year in various forms.
 
I am delighted with the results and would highly recommend Bernie.
